Friday's Questions

by peterb

More musings on unanswerable questions that aren't actually significant enough to warrant their own long article:

- Am I the only person who thinks that aspirin, chewed, tastes kinda good? I want aspirin-flavored soda.

- Who are all these people that are still buying $2500 gaming PC rigs, and what is wrong with them?

- What happened to my copy of the Tank Girl soundtrack, along with maybe 5% of all the CDs I've ever owned? Is there some sort of collective of shame I can join where I can reacquire mp3s of songs I paid for, but lost?

- Let me get this straight: I can get fresh fish from halfway around the world, or any fruit that is totally out of season, in my local supermarket. But to get heavy cream without stabilizers and garbage in it, I have to drive for half an hour?

- Was the real reason that Germany invaded Belgium that they were pissed off that the Belgians made better beer?

- Why does commercial radio suck so bad (even compared to commercial TV)?

- Why is it that 15 years later, the soundcards/sound generators that come with most computers sound terrible compared to the long-gone Gravis Ultrasound?

- Why is Aimee Mann the only one who knows that Disneyland's about to close? For the love of God, what does that song mean?

Trivial as these questions are, they are the sorts of things that keep me awake at night.

- For the love of god, why is it that every Sunday there are a freaking boatload of people waiting outside Pamela's in Squirrel Hill? Don't they know that all that lies within are grease patties and crappy breakfast?

Try birch beer

Mmmmm, aspirin. So tasty...

I have a four year old daughter and I must confess that I sometimes eat the children's Tylenol we have around the house just for fun. Love that chalky grapey-ness.

BTW, thanks for linking to my blog, render. Just stumbled across your site today, and I'm going to return the favor. You guys rock.

I remember loving the taste of chewed Excedrin as a kid, before that whole Reye's Syndrome scare happened and I wasn't allowed to take it for headaches anymore. Unfortunately, Excedrin today just doesn't taste the same as it did back then.

Aimee Mann lives in an alternate reality. After Red Vines came out, the entire Disney empire fell apart. The song is about what happens to Mickey after he's unemployed.

Aspirin-flavored soda? Isn't that basically what you get out of soluble aspirin?

Aspirin flavored soda is easily achieved.

1. Buy BC headache powder.
2. Buy sparkling water.

Mix to taste.

If you favor the high-effort Martha way, crush your own cheap drugstore brand aspirin, probably a money saver. But if your ears start ringing, stop with the aspirin.

Also, you might like Apollonaris sparkling mineral water. It's reputed to have analgesic properties. It's my favorite fizzy euro-water.

I think I'm addicted to the taste of aspirin. I eat aspirin everyday sometime 4 to 10 tablets. Some friends tell me to try eating starch instead. I haven't tried it yet. It's something about the chalky feeling and taste on my tongue I like. When I was little I ate baby powder. Maybe it's the talc I like that's in aspirin too.
