PTD #11

by peterb

Issue #11 of Played.toDeath magazine is out, and the PDF can be downloaded here.

My contributions in this issue include:

  • Retrograde: Fool's Errand, a review written to celebrate the fact that it is perfectly clear that The Fool and His Money (Hi! I'm True Believer #14) will never, ever, ever be released. (page 12)
  • Indiescene: Deadly Rooms of Death, a nifty Sokoban-like puzzle game for Mac, Windows, and Linux, available from Caravel Games (page 10)
  • A review of Glory of the Roman Empire (page 48)

There's lots of other good stuff, too, including a review of one of my favorite SNES games, Earthbound. Check it out.

Every so often, when I have forgotten the answers to the puzzles, I haul out The Fool's Errand and 3 In Three and play them again. Apart from one or two irritating twitch puzzles, these games are firmly on my "best ever" list. I'm another one of those True Believer fools who parted with money, and like you, I'm not expecting it to ever bring any returns.

Thanks for the DROD recommendation - I will have to check out the Caravel site today.

I'll second the DROD recommendation. The puzzles are tough but generally solvable. Get the JTRH demo (http://www.caravelgames.com/Articles/Games_2/JtRH.html) and enjoy.

I don't know what to think of a magazine that offers unreserved recommendations of a title with with a huge gamebreaking bug and a mix of lesser but still tangible glitches (bubble bobble revolution). Is the review based on an import or something?
